It is completely normal to experience a little soreness when wearing braces, and the discomfort can be easily manageable. New Age Dental is pleased to provide a few tips as to what you can do to ease braces-related discomfort.
- Use Braces Wax. Wearing braces can cause the inside of your mouth to be susceptible to scratches. To alleviate this, place wax on the part of your braces that is making contact with the soft tissue inside your mouth.
- Use a Salt Water Rinse. Rinsing with salt water can help minimize discomfort and swelling. Just take a teaspoon of salt, stir it into an 8oz. glass of warm water, and rinse!
- Take a Painkiller. If the discomfort does not go away, you may want to take an over-the-counter painkiller. Acetaminophin or ibuprofen are ideal options.
- Use a Numbing Gel. This can be a great solution if your discomfort is keeping you up at night. Numbing gel is usually available at grocery stores and is simply applied to the teeth and/or gums that are hurting.
