Making sure you have a dental exam twice a year is a great way to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Doing so can also help to avoid the discomfort and financial costs associated with complex treatment plans later on. By having a dental exam once every six months, Dr. Joseph Rajabi or Dr. Reza Rajabi can catch most problems while they remain in an early stage.
What happens during an exam?
Our dentists or oral hygienist will first examine your mouth visually, using dental equipment such as mouth mirrors, assorted dental tools, and high intensity lights. They will evaluate your overall oral health and hygiene, as well as assess your risk of tooth decay, root decay, and gum or bone disease. You will also be screened for any signs of oral cancer in the face, neck, lips, tongue, gums, tissues, and throat. Additionally, any existing restorations, such as current fillings and/or crowns, will be checked for any damage, such as cracks or chips.
Our team will also take diagnostic X-rays during your appointment. This allows our dentists to identify any hidden issues, especially those below the gums. Our team will take bitewing X-rays about every 12 months, and a panoramic X-ray (which provides a single-image view of the entire mouth) every 3 to 5 years.
